Serving humanity is serving God – Journey of Compassion – Babu Mohan

In a world filled with chaos and selfishness, there are very few people who shine with selfless service. “Manava seva madhava seva” – Serving humanity is truly serving God. True humanity lies in touching lives, in uplifting those who have no one to call their own. At Amma Nanna Orphanage, this philosophy finds a living example through the compassionate efforts of many great people. One such lamp of kindness is Shri Babu Mohan garu.

Born in Birolu in Khammam district, Babu Mohan garu gave up a government revenue job for something greater. His film journey began with the film “Ee Kheer Baathlede” which paved the way for him to become a popular comedian in Telugu cinema. Beloved by audiences of all ages, he has carved out a niche for himself with his unparalleled humour and heartfelt performances. But his story did not end on screen – it evolved into a profound journey of public service when he entered politics and served as an MLA, earning immense love and respect from the people.

His elder son “Pawan Kumar” lost his life in a road accident on 13th October 2003. The tragedy left him deeply shaken. Despite all the pain, he found courage in remembering God and took steps for the development of the society. Such grief can break anyone. But Babu Mohan garu, with unwavering faith and strength, chose to turn his grief into service. In the memory of his beloved son, he established the “Pawan Babu Mohan Trust” in Himayatnagar, Hyderabad. It is a foundation committed to education, healthcare and feeding the poor.

His recent visit to the Sri Punya Lingeshwara Swamy Temple was a spiritual moment. Welcomed with a warm welcome and Vedic mantras, he offered heartfelt prayers, performed Jalabhishekam and participated in the sacred rituals for the well-being of his family. Devotion was evident in his every gesture, he humbly offered Aarti and laid the foundation stone for the new construction of the temple with devotion in his heart.

After this divine experience, after embarking on the path of service, the founder Sri Venerable Gattu Shankar showed the picture of Susheelamma, the first orphan of the ashram, which is visible in front of Amma Nanna Orphanage, and informed about the ashram.

He went to the section where the orphans were and spoke lovingly to the unfortunate ones, took their hands in his own and listened attentively to what they were saying with great love. He was mesmerized by the songs sung. When the unfortunate one, who did not know the auspiciousness of the abbot, offered a stick, he bowed down again in a respectful manner. After the death of his son, he could not forget his memories and formed the “Pawan Babu Mohan Trust”. Through the same trust, he organized a three-time annadan program for 600 unfortunate people in the ashram with a humanitarian attitude and distributed annadan to the orphans with his own hands.

He also visited the hospital that improves their health and learned more. While Shankar ji explained the details of the ashram and the values of service being done for them, he listened very humbly, conveyed their opinion and let us hear in his own words the service he is doing for this society and the way he has experienced it.

A special emotional meeting was held with Kaja Aruna Kumari, a former government teacher who once lost her mental balance and took shelter in an orphanage. Now she has recovered and stood confidently and shared words of gratitude with Babu Mohan ji. This is a testament to the life-changing support provided by the orphanage.

Later, he performed the “rebirth karya” of a destitute person, which is a tradition of the ashram, by cutting his hair and giving him the opportunity to be reborn. He also appreciated the work being done by the ashram staff and expressed his happiness at visiting the ashram.

Before leaving, Babu Mohan expressed his deep gratitude for being a part of such a divine mission. “In this holy place,” he said, “humanity and divinity walk hand in hand. Being a part of this great cause is the greatest blessing I can receive. I will definitely come back again.”

Amma Nanna Orphanage sincerely prays for the blessings of Sri Punya Lingeshwara Swamy and his family for their unwavering commitment to selfless service.
